This protein is crucial for oxygen transport to both the mother and fetus across the placental barrier. Maternal hematological problems are considered a public health issue both nationally and internationally, as alterations in hemoglobin and hematocrit during pregnancy are linked to perinatal complications, high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, and anemia prevalence exceeding 50% among pregnant women, infants, and children under two years old in developing countries. The goal of this research project is to analyze the relationship between maternal hematological values and hemoglobin levels in newborns of pregnant women attended at the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia during 2019-2020. Alterations in maternal hemoglobin levels are associated with a higher incidence of problems in newborns and higher maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality.Durante el embarazo, se desencadenan adaptaciones metabólicas y fisiológicas para satisfacer las demandas del desarrollo fetal y uterino, requiriendo niveles adecuados de hemoglobina. Esta proteína es crucial para el transporte de oxígeno tanto en la madre como en el feto a través de la barrera hemato placentaria. Los problemas hematológicos maternos, considerados un problema de salud pública a nivel nacional e internacional, presentan alteraciones en la hemoglobina y hematocrito durante el embarazo, asociadas a complicaciones perinatales, alta morbimortalidad materna y fetal, y una prevalencia de anemia superior al 50% en gestantes, infantes y niños menores de dos años en países en desarrollo. Este proyecto de investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la relación entre los valores hematológicos maternos y los niveles de hemoglobina en recién nacidos de gestantes atendidas en el Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia durante 2019-2020.
