Postpartum depression is a prevalent perinatal mental health issue that affects maternal stability and newborn development, making the identification of effective preventive strategies essential. Objectives: The study sought to establish the relationship between attendance at the Obstetric Psychoprophylaxis (OPP) program and depressive symptoms in puerperal women at the Virgen del Carmen Maternal and Child Center from January to June 2026. Methods: The research adopted a quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional, and non-experimental correlational design. The sample consisted of 85 puerperal women evaluated at a single point in time using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Statistical analysis was performed using Spearman's correlation coefficient in SPSS v29 software. Main results: The predominant sociodemographic profile showed that 72% were adults aged 20 to 34, 65% were cohabiting, and 52% were unemployed. A negative and statistically significant relationship was found between the number of OPP sessions and general depressive symptoms (p = −0.353, 𝑝 = 0.001) as well as with the specific dimensions of sadness (p = −0.383, 𝑝 = 0.000) and anxiety (p =−0.292, 𝑝 = 0.007). Those who completed more sessions (5 to 6) showed markedly lower scores on the scale. Conclusions: It is concluded that there is a significant inverse correlation between attendance at the prenatal preparation program and postnatal depressive symptomatology. Therefore, obstetric psychoprophylaxis constitutes an effective protective factor that mitigates anxiety and sadness, promoting maternal well-being.application/pdfspahttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/Depresión PospartoDepression, PostpartumAnsiedadAnxietySalud MentalMental HealthSalud MaternaMaternal HealthPsicoprofilaxis obstétrica y depresión en puérperas del Centro Materno Infantil Virgen del Carmen, 2026Obstetric psychoprophylaxis and depression in postpartum women at the Virgen del Carmen Maternal and Child Health Center, 2026http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fhttps://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#3.02.02ODS 3: Salud y bienestar.
