Asociación de transtornos temporomandibulares y la aptitud física en los alumnos del primer año del Instituto de Educación Superior Tecnológico Público del Ejército - Chorrillos 2024

Abstract

La investigación propuso como objetivo establecer la asociación de los transtornos temporomandibulares y la aptitud física en los alumnos del primer año del Instituto de Educación Superior Tecnológico Público del Ejército (ETE) - Chorrillos 2024. Estudio no experimental, transversal y prospectivo, en el que se evaluó a 98 alumnos del primer año pertenecientes al “Instituto de Educación Superior Tecnológico Público del Ejército”, a través de un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. La prueba estadística para comprobar la hipótesis de la investigación fue correlación de Spearman. Los resultados, con relación a la gravedad de los signos y síntomas de los transtornos temporomandibulares, el 80,6% de los estudiantes no manifestó ningún signo o síntoma de TTM (n=79), el 15,3% (n=15) presentó un signo o síntoma leve de TTM, el 4,1% (n=4) un TTM moderado, mientras que ningún alumno evidenció un TTM grave. Respecto a la aptitud física, el 58,2% (n=57) de los alumnos presentó una aptitud “muy buena” y el 41,8% (n=41) una excelente aptitud. No se registraron alumnos con una aptitud física pobre, regular o buena (0%). Respecto a la asociación de ambas variables, se evidenció un coeficiente de Rho = 0.046 y un valor p de 0.655. En conclusión, no existe una asociación significativa entre los transtornos temporomandibulares y la aptitud física en los alumnos del primer año del ETE - Chorrillos 2024.

The aim of the study was to establish the association between temporomandibular disorders and physical fitness among first-year students at the Army Public Technological Higher Education Institute (ETE) – Chorrillos 2024. This was a non-experimental, cross-sectional and prospective study, in which a total of 98 first-year students from the ‘Army Public Technological Higher Education Institute’ were assessed using non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The statistical test used to test the research hypothesis was Spearman’s correlation. Regarding the severity of signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders, 80.6% of the students showed no signs or symptoms of TMD (n=79), 15.3% (n=15) presented a mild sign or symptom of TMD, 4.1% (n=4) had moderate TMD, whilst no student showed severe TMD. With regard to physical fitness, 58.2% (n=57) of the students had ‘very good’ fitness and 41.8% (n=41) had excellent fitness. No students were recorded as having poor, fair or good physical fitness (0%). Regarding the association between the two variables, a Rho coefficient of 0.046 and a p-value of 0.655 were observed. In conclusion, there is no significant association between temporomandibular disorders and physical fitness in first year students of the ETE - Chorrillos 2024.
