Effectiveness of tympanoplasty in patients with otitis media

Abstract

Objective: analyze and systematize evidence on the effectiveness of tympanoplasty in patients with otitis media. Materials and methods: the research was quantitative, its design being a systematic review whose population was made up of 15 scientific articles having as a sample 10 studies that were published in different scientific databases: Mediciego, Sciencedirect, Scielo, Pubmed, Elsevier, Epistemónikos, Ebsco and for its analysis the grade method was used where the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendation was evaluated. Results: we have that of 100% of the scientific articles, 20% correspond to Chile, 10% Colombia, 10% USA, 10% Mexico, 10% Cuba, 10% Qatar, 10% Cyprus, 10% to the United Kingdom and finally 10% to China respectively. Regarding the study designs, we can mention that 70% correspond to retrospective, 10% meta-analysis, 10% prospective and 10% cohort respectively. Conclusions: it was concluded that 100% of the studies show the effectiveness of tympanoplasty in patients with otitis media; the correction of tympanic perforations in both children and adults caused by this pathology, reduction in postoperative morbidity, hearing improvement, anatomical recovery, comfort for the patient and their self-esteem.

Objetivo: analizar y sistematizar evidencias sobre la efectividad de la timpanoplastia en paciente con otitis media. Materiales y métodos: la investigación fue de tipo cuantitativa, siendo su diseño una revisión sistemática cuya población estuvo conformada por 15 artículos científicos teniendo como muestra 10 estudios que fueron publicados en diferentes bases de datos científicos: Mediciego, Sciencedirect, Scielo, Pubmed, Elsevier, Epistemónikos, Ebsco y para su análisis se empleó el método grade donde evaluó la calidad de evidencia y la fuerza de recomendación. Resultados: tenemos que del 100% de los artículos científicos, el 20% corresponden a Chile, el 10% Colombia, el 10% EE. UU., el 10% México, el 10% Cuba, el 10% Qatar, el 10% Chipre, el 10 % Reino Unido y finalmente el 10% a China respectivamente. sobre los diseños de estudios podemos mencionar que el 70% corresponden a retrospectivo, 10% meta-análisis, 10% prospectivo y 10% cohorte respectivamente. Conclusiones: se concluyó que el 100% de los estudios evidencian la efectividad de la timpanoplastia en pacientes con otitis media; la corrección de perforaciones timpánicas tanto en niños como en adultos originadas por esta patología, disminución de morbilidad postoperatoria, mejoría auditiva, recuperación anatómica, confort para el paciente y su autoestima.
