Publicación Acceso abierto Redes sociales y automedicación frente a COVID-19 en usuarios del mercado San Pedro del distrito San Martín de Porres 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-10-05) Abrigo Quispe, Claudia Elizabeth; De la Cruz Suclupe, Silvia Esther; Ciquero Cruzado, Mélida MercedesThis study aimed to determine the relationship between social networks and self-medication against COVID-19 among users of the San Pedro market, district of San Martín de Porres, in 2021. A quantitative, correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional study was conducted through a survey applied to 364 users, with the data analyzed using descriptive statistics presented in tables and figures. The results showed that 53.6% of respondents almost never consulted Facebook before a pharmacist about the medicines they intended to use, 58.2% almost never searched for medicines on TikTok, and 64.3% indicated that medication delivery applications linked to Instagram almost never fit their lifestyle. Additionally, 39.8% mentioned that sometimes it is easier to acquire medicines via WhatsApp than in person, while 45.3% sometimes believed that taking antibiotics without prescription could help fight COVID-19. Furthermore, 39.3% reported sometimes consuming vitamin C, 41.2% sometimes preferred to purchase cold medicines online for broader options than at a physical pharmacy, and 40.1% almost always consumed paracetamol, ibuprofen, and metamizole based on recommendations from social networks. The study concludes that there is a moderate positive relationship (r = .459; p = 0.000 < 0.05) between the use of social networks and self-medication against COVID-19 among market users.
