    The quality of healthcare and patient safety are fundamental concerns for health institutions, especially in hospitalized pediatric populations. Among the most frequent adverse events are falls and diaper rash, which are priority indicators established by the Ministry of Health. In the Pediatric Medicine Service of the Daniel Alcides Carrión National Hospital, recurrent cases of these events were observed, mainly associated with inadequate maternal practices during hospitalization, such as poor perineal hygiene, improper diaper use, and insufficient safety measures to prevent falls. In response to this situation, in February 2014 the educational program “Participating Mother” was implemented, targeting mothers of hospitalized children under five years of age, with the aim of improving their knowledge and preventive practices. The study had a quantitative, longitudinal, and quasi-experimental design, with a sample of 103 mothers. Data collection was carried out before and after the intervention through interviews and observation, using a questionnaire and an observation guide validated by expert judgment. The results showed a significant improvement in mothers’ knowledge and practices regarding the prevention of falls and diaper rash, demonstrating that the educational program was effective and that nursing education contributes to safer and higher-quality pediatric care.
