They also constitute chronic and multifactorial diseases that can be prevented, especially in the pediatric population. These disorders are characterized by excessive fat accumulation or hypertrophy of body adipose tissue. Therefore, overweight and obesity are the fifth leading risk factor contributing to the increased mortality rates worldwide.
