Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between the plasma atherogenic index and glycated hemoglobin in diabetic patients treated at the ROAL laboratories polyclinic, Lima, 2021.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-21) Alva Torres, Mayra Alejandra; Valenzuela Martinez, Stefany SaragozaAtherogenic cardiovascular disease encompasses a set of heart and blood vessel pathologies. It is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally, with a higher prevalence in diabetic populations. Cardiovascular risk is typically assessed in laboratories by measuring various lipid variables such as cholesterol, triglycerides, and high and low-density lipoproteins. Numerous studies support that high levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and low levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) are key causes of cardiovascular diseases. One promising marker is the atherogenic plasma index (API), calculated as the logarithmic ratio of triglycerides and HDL, which has been shown in several studies to be a reliable marker for predicting the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. This index serves as a simple, practical, and cost-effective tool that can contribute positively to therapeutic and diagnostic decisions, as well as lipid-related cardiovascular risk management.
