Peru.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-08-18) Andrade Quispe, Priscilla Estefany; Garavito Chang, Enna LucilaObjective: To relate the morphology of the mandibular canal with the characteristics of the lower third molars in patients treated at the Radiology Department of the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital from July to December 2018. Materials and Methods: This was an observational relational study, cross-sectional, and retrospective in design. A total of 320 panoramic radiographs from patients over 18 years of age, of both genders, who were treated between July and December 2018, were used. The sample consisted of 150 panoramic radiographs. Results: The average diameter of the mandibular canal was found to be 3 mm. The distance between the mandibular canal and the alveolar ridge on the right side was 7 mm in the mesial zone and 6.4 mm in the distal zone. On the left side, the mesial zone distance was 7.1 mm, and the distal zone distance was 6.6 mm. The frequency of the third molar position on the right side was mesioangulated in 32% and horizontal in 20%. On the left side, the mesioangulated position represented 30.6%, and the horizontal position was 20%. The frequency of the degree of eruption of the right third molar was 49.3% erupted, 46% impacted, and 4.7% absent. On the left side, 49.3% were erupted, 48.7% impacted, and 2% absent. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the morphology of the mandibular canal and the lower third molars.
