Ítem Acceso abierto Sarcopenia risk and postoperative complications in patients with abdominal surgery in a Lima public hospital-2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-14) Arévalo Cadillo, Edinson Joel; Mauricio Alza, Saby MarisolThe study is observational, analytical and retrospective. The scores of the SARC-F tool were collected to identify risk of sarcopenia and, from the electronic medical history record, information was obtained to determine the presence of postoperative complications that were subsequently classified according to the Clavien-Dindo criterion. The sample was 244 adult hospitalized patients who had abdominal surgery between June and September 2019. The risk of sarcopenia occurred in 18.2% of patients with a predominance of those over 60 years of age, while the proportion of patients who had postoperative complications reached 18%, with a male majority. More cases of postoperative complications were detected in patients at risk of sarcopenia (55.6%). With the bivariate analysis, a statistically significant relationship (p=0.000) was found between the risk of sarcopenia and postoperative complications [Odds Ratio (OR) 11.8, 95% CI 5.6-25.2]. It is concluded that the risk of sarcopenia would significantly favor the appearance of postoperative complications.
