Publicación Acceso abierto Factores que influyen en la hipercolesterolemia, hipertrigliceridemia e hiperglicemia en adultos mayores de la Casa Hogar "San Martin de Porres", Cercado de Lima – Perú 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-07-10) Arias Arzapalo, Marilia Angela; Vila Lopez, Mayela Katherine; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelThe objective of the present work was to determine the factors that influence hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and hyperglycemia in elderly individuals. The study conducted was descriptive, observational, retrospective, and correlational. The sample consisted of 80 older adults, of which 54% were men and 46% women, residents of the nursing home “San Martín de Porres.” Blood samples were collected using vacuum tubes in a closed system with a clot activator gel for the determination of cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose by enzymatic methods, taking into account the corresponding parameters. Additionally, a survey was conducted to determine the eating habits and lifestyle of each individual. For the statistical analysis, the Chi-square test was applied in order to contrast two qualitative variables against three biochemical parameters, considering the level of healthy and unhealthy lifestyle, and the level of healthy and unhealthy diet. According to the results obtained, it was found that 30% of men and 30% of women, elderly between 60 and 79 years, presented hypercholesterolemia, while the rate of hypertriglyceridemia in women was 22% and 16% in men. It was also found that among elderly aged 60 to 69 years, 15% presented hyperglycemia, with a higher incidence in females (16%) compared to males (2%). By performing a general analysis of the results using the Chi-square test of independence, which showed the level of significance for each qualitative variable, it was concluded that hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and hyperglycemia are related to lifestyle and eating habits.
