Ítem Acceso abierto Level of knowledge and self-care practices in the prevention of diabetic foot in users with type 2 diabetes mellitus of the Peruvian Diabetic Association Lima 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-09-04) Armas Contreras, Ruth; Suarez Valderrama, Yurik AnatoliIntroduction: Diabetes mellitus is one of the main chronic non-communicable diseases, which has become a public health problem due to its high rates of morbidity, mortality, and disability, as well as the severe multisystemic complications it causes in uncontrolled diabetics. Diabetic foot is one of the most impactful complications, leading to physical disability, with 50% of cases resulting in amputation, profoundly affecting the quality of life of those who suffer from it and their families. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), in 2019, 374 million people had type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and this number is expected to increase to 700 million by 2045. Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and self-care practices in the prevention of diabetic foot among users with type 2 diabetes at the Diabetes Association of Peru, Lima 2021. Methodology: A descriptive, correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional study will be conducted. The study population will consist of 185 elderly patients (100% of the population) with type 2 diabetes attending the Diabetes Association of Peru. The two variables are: Level of knowledge about diabetic foot prevention, which includes two dimensions: general knowledge (blood glucose control, diet, physical activity, blood circulation, and foot care) and risk factors for diabetic foot. Self-care practices in the prevention of diabetic foot, with three dimensions: diet, physical activity, and foot hygiene and care. The instrument used to assess knowledge will be a multiple-choice questionnaire based on the study by Montero and Méndez (2017). To assess self-care practices, a checklist of 20 items with a Likert scale for responses (three alternatives) will be used. The data will be tabulated and statistically processed using SPSS 26.0 and Excel.
