Publicación Acceso abierto Utilización de carbapenémicos en pacientes del Hospital III Suárez Angamos – Área de Hospitalización EsSalud. Período 2019–2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-08-03) Basilio Poma, Gisela; Góngora Panaifo, Angela María; Torres Veliz, Ernesto RaúlThe objective of this research was to characterize the utilization of carbapenems in hospitalized patients at the Suárez Angamos Hospital III—Hospitalization Area, EsSalud, during the 2019–2020 period. The methodology applied was the deductive method, with a quantitative approach, basic type, and non-experimental design. The population consisted of the total records of hospitalized patients. Results: Imipenem/cilastatin 500 mg was identified as the most utilized carbapenem (72.3%), while meropenem 500 mg accounted for 27.7%. It is important to note that meropenem utilization increased from 13.4% (2019) to 42.6% (2020). The most utilized doses and frequencies were 500 mg every 8 hours with a time of use of 1 to 7 days. The most frequent diagnoses were urinary tract infection (unspecified site) (18.3% ), septicemia (8.2% ), acute respiratory failure (7.3% ), pneumonia (6.2% ), and COVID-19 virus identified (3.8% ). The service with the highest utilization of Meropenem was Intensive Care Medicine with 4,231 ampoules (46.0%). The average monthly consumption of Imipenem/Cilastatin 500 mg was 1,220 ampoules, which decreased the following year to 778 units. Conversely, the monthly utilization of Meropenem 500 mg increased from 188 ampoules in 2019 to 578 ampoules in 2020. Conclusion: 1,277 patients were treated with carbapenem antibiotics, of which 1,036 received Imipenem/cilastatin 500 mg and 241 received Meropenem 500 mg, consuming a total of 33,167 carbapenem antibiotics during 2019 and 2020. Close to 70% of these patients were older adults, distributed similarly between men and women.
