It is frequently used by local residents, and there is little research on its antibacterial activity. Furthermore, there are increasing reports of high resistance to the use of synthetic antimicrobials; therefore, the aim is to provide a natural antimicrobial alternative. The objective of this study was to determine the antimicrobial activity of the ethanolic extract of the root of Dracontium spruceanum (Schott) G.H. Zhu “jergón sacha” on ATCC strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, Lima 2024. In the methodology, the ethanolic extract of the root was obtained and the antimicrobial activity was evaluated at different concentrations of the dry extract by agar diffusion using ATCC strains of Gram positive and Gram negative microorganisms. In the results, the extract in P. aeruginosa showed greater activity than the synthetic antibiotic Cefepime 30 ug with 2.68 mm (p < 0.05); and antimicrobial activity greater than 50% than gentamicin (p < 0.05). In S. aureus it showed antimicrobial activity close to Vancomycin and Oxacillin (p > 0.05); and antimicrobial activity greater than 50% than gentamicin (p < 0.05). In E. coli it showed antimicrobial activity less than 50% of the activity shown by Amoxicillin / clavulanic acid and Sulfamethoxazole / Trimethoprim (p > 0.05), and antimicrobial activity greater than 50% than gentamicin (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the dry ethanolic extract at 100% concentration of the root of Dracontium spruceanum (Schott) G.H. Zhu “jergón sacha” showed antimicrobial activity against ATCC strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, Lima -2024.
