Publicación Acceso abierto Relación del colesterol y triglicéridos con el indice de masa corporal (IMC), circunferencia de la cintura (CC) y circunferencia del brazo (CB) en manipuladores de alimentos de comedores populares de Villa María del Triunfo en el año 2013(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Bernaola Anampa, Esther Gudelia; Carrazco Acho, Lourdes Mónica; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelThis study examines the relationship between biochemical parameters—cholesterol and triglycerides—and anthropometric parameters—Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), and Arm Circumference (AC)—in food handlers of community kitchens in the district of Villa María del Triunfo during November and December 2013. A descriptive, correlational, prospective, cross-sectional, and non-experimental study was conducted. Cholesterol and triglyceride levels were determined in the laboratories of Universidad Wiener using enzymatic methods, while weight, height, waist circumference, and arm circumference were measured to obtain anthropometric data. For statistical analysis, the Chi-square test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used. Biochemical results showed that 25% of participants presented a moderate risk in cholesterol levels, with ages ranging from 35 to 50 years; regarding triglycerides, 3.7% were at moderate risk, with ages between 65 and 75 years. Concerning BMI, 39% were overweight, of whom 31.6% were aged 35–50 years, and 16.3% presented class I obesity, with 67.3% aged 51–64 years. Waist circumference results indicated that 54% had abdominal obesity, i.e., at-risk levels, of which 41.4% were aged 51–64 years; for arm circumference, 52.3% were at-risk, with 35% aged 35–50 years. It was concluded that there is a moderate, positive, and significant correlation between cholesterol and triglycerides; a high, positive, and significant correlation between BMI and WC, as well as between BMI and AC; a low, positive, and significant correlation between cholesterol and triglycerides with BMI, and between cholesterol and triglycerides with WC; and finally, a very low, positive, and significant correlation between cholesterol and triglycerides with AC.
