Ítem Acceso abierto Sleep quality and sleepiness in interprovincial bus drivers of a transportation agency in la Victoria, Lima(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-09-06) Chavez Bautista, Ricardo Alberto; Bernuy Rodríguez, Iván RichardThe reduction in sleep hours is a significant problem among interprovincial bus drivers, as their job involves long routes in terms of distance and time, which can range from 10 to 18 consecutive hours depending on the distance to be covered. Methodology: The study involved 83 drivers, who were evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Results: All participants were male, with a mean age of 41.04 years. The group with good sleep quality was 57.8%, while 42.2% had poor sleep quality. Most participants presented normal daytime sleepiness (81.9%), and excessive sleepiness was observed in 18.1%. No relationship was found between sleep quality and age (p>0.05), nor between sleepiness and age (p>0.05). However, a statistical relationship was found between sleep quality and sleepiness (p=0.001). Conclusions: There was a direct and statistically significant relationship between sleep quality and sleepiness levels in interprovincial bus drivers in the study, meaning that the lower the sleep quality, the higher the level of sleepiness. Thus, both variables are directly related.
