Ítem Acceso abierto Functional physical capacity and peripheral muscle strength in chronic respiratory patients of a rehabilitation service, Lima 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-03) Breña Silvera, Mayela Yulisa; Chero Pisfil, Santos LucioRecently, lung health has been affected, with millions of people suffering from lung diseases each year, causing 19% of global mortality. Five major lung disorders predominate: lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), and asthma; according to the World Health Organization (WHO), two chronic respiratory diseases, asthma (235 million) and COPD (64 million), account for 4 million deaths annually. Measuring functional physical capacity has recently been possible by calculating the distance traveled in the six-minute walk test (PC6M), which relates to daily activities, considering demographic and anthropometric characteristics such as age, gender, weight, and height as references. Additionally, various factors contribute to a decrease in peripheral muscle strength, measured through dynamometry, where the average is 26.2 ± 9.1 kg for men and 12.9 ± 4.9 kg for women, indicating that age and gender are significant factors in grip strength.
