Publicación Acceso abierto Interacciones medicamentosas potenciales en prescripciones médicas atendidas en el servicio de unidad de terapia intensiva pediatría del Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé durante el periodo de enero–junio del 2014(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Cáceres Manrique, Linda Carol; Quispe Huisa, Diana Lucy; Martínez Vargas Araníbar, Humberto NazarioThe present study aimed to identify potential drug–drug interactions (pDDIs) in medical prescriptions of polymedicated and hospitalized pediatric patients with a hospital stay longer than two days, during the period January–June 2014, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé. A descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional study was carried out. Data were collected from medical prescriptions, and the study population consisted of 59 patients of both sexes who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Of these, 57 patients (96.6%) presented at least one potential drug–drug interaction, while 2 patients (3.4%) did not. A total of 3,486 pDDIs were identified. By sex, 35 patients (59.3%) were male and 24 (40.7%) female. The age group with the highest frequency of pDDIs was children aged 0–3 years (78%). The most frequent interacting drug pairs were midazolam + ranitidine (5.82%), fentanyl + ranitidine (5.76%), fentanyl + midazolam (4.79%), and metoclopramide + midazolam (3.84%), with other interactions accounting for 56.54%. Regarding onset, 88.04% were unspecified/unknown, 6.34% slow, and 5.62% rapid. By severity, 60.1% were moderate, 24.1% major, 13.7% minor, and 2.1% contraindicated. Mechanism analysis showed 52.12% pharmacokinetic and 47.88% pharmacodynamic interactions. Potential drug–drug interactions were analyzed using drug interaction databases and bibliographic references (Micromedex, Drugs.com, Medscape).
