Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of chemical indicators compared with biological indicators in certifying the sterilization quality of surgical medical equipment in sterilization units(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-12-04) Leiva Mucha, Irma Nora; Cárdenas Orcón, Lesvia; Calsin Pacompia, WilmerSystematize the available evidence on the effectiveness of chemical indicators compared to biological indicators in the certification of the quality of sterilization of medical-surgical material in sterilization centers. Materials and methods: The type of study was quantitative, the design corresponds to a systematic review, population 23 articles and the sample is a systematic review of 10 articles, various scientific articles were found and for this the database instrument was used Medline, Lilacs, Pubmed, Sicelo, Intramed. A critical and intensive evaluation of each article was carried out, from which the quality of the evidence and the strength of recommendation for each article was determined through the GRADE Method. Results: Of the total of 10 articles reviewed, 100% (n= 1/10) show that the effectiveness of biological indicators is greater than chemical indicators in the certification of the quality of sterilization of medical surgical material in sterilization centers, however Within the framework of what has been described, we must state that the use of Biological Indicators IBs as a control tool to guarantee success in sterilization processes should not only occur due to the limitations of the rest of the indicators such as chemicals, but also due to the low reliability of these indicators.
