Publicación Acceso abierto Soporte nutricional enteral durante la estancia hospitalaria de los pacientes con COVID–19 en el Hospital IV Augusto Hernández Mendoza de Essalud – Ica, 2020–2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-12) Céspedes Paz, Demetrio Alejandro; Velásquez Acosta, Pablo MáximoMethodology: This was an inductive, non-experimental, descriptive cross-sectional study in which 220 medical records of hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were reviewed. Results: A higher prevalence of cases was observed in men over 50 years of age with associated comorbidities. The biomarkers analyzed revealed significant alterations in both hematological and biochemical parameters. Eighty percent of hospitalized patients showed malnutrition, and 60% required enteral nutritional support, mainly through supplements and specialized formulas administered via nasogastric tube. The administration of enteral nutrition was correlated with longer hospital stays, reaching up to a maximum of 75 days. An association was also found with higher in-hospital mortality, with 35% in the group receiving enteral nutrition compared to 11.8% in those who did not receive this type of support. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of conducting detailed nutritional assessments and providing enteral support tailored to individual needs in patients affected by COVID-19, especially in high-risk groups. However, it also underscores the need for further research to better understand the apparent association between enteral nutrition and mortality before issuing definitive recommendations.
