    Uso de plantas medicinales en usuarios de los mercados de abastos del distrito de La Victoria. Lima 2021

    The objective of this research was to "Characterize the use of medicinal plants among users of the food markets in the La Victoria district, Lima, 2021." Method: A descriptive, quantitative, observational, and cross-sectional study was conducted. A survey was applied to a sample of 216 medicinal plant users over 18 years of age. Results: 73.6% of the study population was unaware of the adverse effects that can result from the misuse of medicinal plants, while 100% claimed to relieve their ailments using them. The five most-used medicinal plants were Matico, Eucalyptus, Flor blanca, Horsetail, and Chamomile. The most common conditions for which they were used were urinary tract infection, gastritis, COVID-19, nephropathy, and hepatitis, with the most common symptoms being cough, phlegm, burning urination, gas, and sore throat. Conclusions: The majority of the population does not know about the adverse effects of medicinal plants when misused. The study also found that the most common usage patterns were: using the leaves as the plant part, preparing them as an infusion, and using them for more than three years as a family custom.
