Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: Effect of serum magnesium on mortality in adult patients with chronic kidney disease(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-09-25) Cabezas Tuesta, Kelly Fanny; Ponce Castillo, MelissaMagnesium plays a role in various metabolic processes, and studies have shown that altered serum levels can be associated with higher mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease. This secondary research, titled "Effect of Serum Magnesium on Mortality in Adult Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease," aimed to explore the effect of serum magnesium concentrations on mortality in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. The clinical question was: What is the effect of serum magnesium on mortality in adult patients with chronic kidney disease? The NuBE methodology was used, and information was gathered from Science Direct, Pubmed, and Dialnet. Of 25 articles found, 10 were selected and evaluated using the CASPE tool. The cohort study titled "Serum Magnesium and Cardiovascular Outcomes and Mortality in CKD: The Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC)" was selected, with a B-III level of evidence and a strong recommendation grade. Conclusion: Low serum magnesium levels increase the risk of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease.
