    Effectiveness in the implementation of a non-restrictive intensive care unit for the admission of family members to reduce complications in the critically ill patient.

    Objective: To systematize evidence on the effectiveness of implementing a non-restrictive intensive care unit (ICU) policy for family visitation to reduce complications in critically ill patients. Materials and Methods: A systematic observational review that synthesizes the results of multiple studies, identifying relevant studies to answer and resolve specific clinical practice questions. The search was restricted to full-text articles, and selected articles were subjected to critical reading, using the GRADE system to assign the strength of recommendation. Results: Ten articles were selected, of which 10% (1) were from Spain, Colombia, Italy, and Canada, and 30% (3) were from Iran and the United States. Most studies (50%) were systematic reviews from the United States, Colombia, Spain, and Canada; 40% were randomized clinical trials from Iran and Italy; and finally, 1% was a cross-sectional descriptive study from the United States. Conclusions: The implementation of a non-restrictive ICU policy for family visitation is effective in reducing complications in critically ill patients.
