    Efficacy of aggressive intravenous hydration versus standard intravenous hydration in the treatment of acute pancreatitis.

    Objective: To analyze the evidence on the efficacy of aggressive intravenous hydration versus standard intravenous hydration for the treatment of patients with acute pancreatitis. Methodology: The design was a systematic review that summarized the results and evidence from 14 studies, which was an essential part of Evidence-Based Nursing, highlighting those studies that were relevant to answer specific clinical practice questions. Data were collected through a literature review of national and international research articles addressing intravenous hydration treatment for acute pancreatitis. Articles published before 2011 were excluded. The databases used were Elsevier, Scielo, and NCBI. Results: In 21.4% of the articles (3/14), there were controversies regarding both types of hydration. Some studies support aggressive intravenous hydration, while others do not; however, aggressive intravenous hydration was recommended in the initial stage in 64.3% of the studies (9/14), while standard intravenous hydration was recommended in 14.3% of the studies (2/14) as it was less harmful and improved patient recovery. Conclusions: Aggressive intravenous hydration was the most recommended, provided it was applied in the early or initial stage of the disease or in patients with mild or moderate pancreatitis.
