Ítem Acceso abierto Frequency of Microalbuminuria (MAU) in patients over 45 years old without risk factors associated with chronic kidney disease(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-09) Camacho Ojeda, William Jorge; Capcha Aguilar, Luis AlfredoBackground: Chronic kidney disease is a public health problem. Early diagnosis anticipates the possibility of vascular damage and its complications, and forces the implementation of prompt therapeutic measures to prevent future complications. Methods: In 2016, a study was conducted with 129 patients at a clinic in Lima. Outpatients over 45 years of age without risk factors for chronic kidney disease were included. The presence of microalbuminuria was determined using reagent strips, and blood pressure was measured. Results: The frequency of microalbuminuria was 18% (23 out of 129). The relationship between microalbuminuria and high blood pressure was 0.8%. The gender distribution was 57% male and 43% female (13 and 10, respectively). Conclusion: The frequency of microalbuminuria (MAU) in patients over 45 years old is 18%, a very high percentage considering that these patients had no risk factors for chronic kidney disease. The percentage of patients over 45 years old with elevated blood pressure and positive MAU at the time of the interview was 0.8%. No apparent relationship was found between the sex of the patients and the frequency of MAU.
