Ítem Acceso abierto Most effective treatment for patients with hypertensive crises attending the emergency department.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Campojo Salazar, Mily Danith; Gamarra Bustillos, CarlosObjective: To analyze and synthesize the results of the systematic review of studies regarding the most effective treatment for patients with hypertensive crises who visit the emergency unit. Materials and Methods: Systematic observational review, with a restriction to full-text articles. The selected articles underwent critical reading, using an evaluation to identify their level of evidence. Results: In the final selection, 11 articles were chosen, and the evidence showed that the most effective medication for treating hypertensive crises was Captopril. The second-choice medication was Enalapril (ACE inhibitor) and Isosorbide. Other medications used included Furosemide, Nitroglycerin, Amlodipine, and Magnesium Sulfate. Conclusions: After the systematic review of the articles on the most effective treatment for hypertensive crises, the medication of choice is Captopril. The sample consisted of the 11 reviewed articles, which constitute 27.3% of the total studies.
