    Problemas relacionados con la medicación en pacientes hospitalizados con diabetes mellitus tipo II en la Clínica Internacional sede San Borja en los meses enero–junio del año 2017

    The objective of this study was to identify potential and actual drug-related problems (DRPs) in hospitalized patients with type II diabetes mellitus at Clínica Internacional, San Borja branch. A retrospective, descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional study was conducted, including 60 patients during the period from January to July 2017. Medical records and pharmacological treatments were reviewed using the SOAP format for the evaluation of drug-related problems (DRPs) through Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up (SFT). A total of 154 DRPs were identified, with safety-related DRPs being the most frequent (77%), particularly DRP 5 (59.7%). The nature of the problems was analyzed, with drug interactions accounting for 65%. According to the ATC classification, the most frequently implicated drugs corresponded to the alimentary tract and metabolism group (30%). The most common comorbidities were urinary tract infections (15%). The age group with the highest percentage of DRPs was 54–72 years (n=30), and male patients accounted for 53%, while female patients accounted for 47%. In conclusion, the studied patient population presented a high frequency of safety-related DRPs, with drug interactions and adverse reactions being the most common.
