Ítem Acceso abierto Antipyretic efficacy of combined versus individual use of paracetamol and ibuprofen in febrile pediatric patients.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-03-25) Casanova Taya, Betty Roxana; Matta Solis, Hernan HugoObjective: To systematically analyze the evidence for the combined use of paracetamol and ibuprofen versus their individual use. Material and method: A systematic review of 10 articles on the antipyretic efficacy of the combined use versus individual use of paracetamol and ibuprofen in febrile pediatric patients in the emergency department was found in the following databases: Cochrane, SciELO, Medline, PubMed, and Elsevier. Of the 10 articles reviewed, 60% (6/10) correspond to the methodological design of a randomized clinical trial, 30% (3/10) are systematic reviews, and 10% (1/10) are simple reviews. All of them were analyzed according to the GRADE scale to determine their strength and quality of evidence. Results: 80% of the reviewed articles are conclusive, supported by 1 systematic review and 1 simple review, which suggest that the use of combination therapy is better than monotherapy, and 6 randomized clinical trials showing that the combined use of paracetamol and ibuprofen acts more effectively and even faster than paracetamol or ibuprofen alone. The other 20%, however, recommend that further studies in larger populations are needed to confirm its efficacy. Conclusions: Of the 10 reviewed articles, 80% (8/10) demonstrate the efficacy of the combined use of paracetamol and ibuprofen in febrile pediatric patients.
