    Thrombocytopenia refers to a decrease in platelets in the blood and is the second most common hematological alteration and the leading cause of coagulation issues in obstetric patients. Thrombocytopenia affects up to 15% of all pregnancies, with the condition being more prevalent during the third trimester. Gestational thrombocytopenia occurs when platelet counts fall below normal values of 150,000 to 450,000 per microliter.
