    According to the World Health Organization, "Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease characterized by an increased percentage of body fat and is associated with higher health risks." Globally, obesity rates have doubled since 1980: currently, 39% of adults are overweight, and 13% are obese. The prevalence of obesity, overweight, and cardiovascular risk factors is increasing. Stress tests help determine functional capacity, recommend participation in activities, prescribe exercise, evaluate injuries, and establish a favorable prognosis.
