Ítem Acceso abierto Burnout syndrome and sociodemographic characteristics of nursing staff in a Gerontological-Geriatric Residential Center.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Bustamante Mendoza, María Luz del Carmen; Flores Castillo, Nora Liz; Chávez Cachay, EstherObjective: To determine the level of burnout syndrome in nursing staff and its correlation with the sociodemographic characteristics of the nursing staff at the Geronto-Geriatric Residential Care Center Ignacia Rodulfa Vda. de Canevaro during April and May of 2015. Methodology: A quantitative, relational, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 72 nursing team members, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) was applied to measure burnout syndrome levels in its three subscales: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. Sociodemographic characteristics included age, sex, marital status, employment situation, length of service, number of jobs, and number of children. Results: 91.7% of the nursing staff had a low level of emotional exhaustion, 79.2% had a low level of depersonalization, and 51.4% showed a tendency towards a medium to high level in the personal accomplishment subscale. Sociodemographic data revealed that 68% were over 41 years old, 90.3% were female, 47.2% were married, 51.4% were permanent staff, 58.3% had over 9 years of service, 41.7% had 2 children, and 62.5% worked in a single institution. Conclusions: A direct correlation exists between length of service and burnout syndrome levels, with a significance level of 0.59; a significant bilateral relationship was also found between burnout syndrome and the sociodemographic characteristics of employment situation and number of jobs.Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between functional capacity and the risk of falls in older adults.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Dávila Castro, Lynda Isabella; Palacios Orellana, Gelin Luz; Chávez Cachay, EstherObjective: To determine the relationship between functional capacity and the risk of falls among older adults from the Congregation Hijos de Nuestra Señora de la Piedad in the Breña district. Materials and methods: Quantitative, descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 40 older adults aged 60 and over, between April and May 2015. The instruments used to evaluate functional capacity were the Barthel and Lawton & Brody scales. To assess the risk of falls, the Tinetti scale was used. Results: Female participants predominated. The age ranged from 60 to 80 years, with a higher percentage among those aged 80 or more. In the fall risk evaluation, 50% were found to be at high risk of falls. In relation to functional capacity, 72.5% had moderate dependence for basic daily activities. For instrumental activities, 57.5% and 20% showed moderate and severe dependence, respectively. It was found that the relationship between functional capacity and fall risk is statistically significant (p = 0.001). Conclusion: There is a direct relationship between functional capacity (basic and instrumental daily activities) and fall risk among older adults from the Congregation Hijos de Nuestra Señora de la Piedad.
