Publicación Acceso abierto Características de prescripción y uso de antimicrobianos en pacientes con septicemia del servicio de Unidad de Terapia Intensiva Pediátrica del Hospital Nacional Docente Madre – Niño San Bartolomé agosto–diciembre 2013(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Canchanya Janampa, Ana Isabel; Chambi Cumpa, Norma; Herencia Torres, Victor ReynaldoThe objective of this thesis was to determine the characteristics of antimicrobial prescription and use in patients with septicemia admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Nacional Docente Madre–Niño San Bartolomé from August to December 2013. A cross-sectional, retrospective, observational, and descriptive study design was applied, analyzing 156 antimicrobials prescribed to 55 hospitalized patients, which represented 100% of the study population, according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria. A data collection sheet was designed as an instrument, including the 8 study indicators related to antimicrobial prescription and use. Among the results, 52.7% of patients were male, and 41.8% were between 1 and 5 years old. Regarding length of hospital stay, 56.4% of patients were hospitalized between 1 and 10 days. Most patients received 1 to 3 antimicrobials (70.9%), with vancomycin being the most frequently prescribed (21.1%). The most commonly used ATC code was J01XA01 (21.1%). The therapeutic subgroup “Other antimicrobials” was the most frequent (52.6%), with glycopeptides accounting for 40.2% within this group. In addition, 95.5% of prescribed antimicrobials were included in the Petitorio Nacional Único de Medicamentos Esenciales. In conclusion, the results demonstrated that antimicrobial prescription and use were adequate in pediatric patients of the Intensive Care Unit. However, monitoring of restricted antimicrobials in pediatric patients is recommended to reduce bacterial resistance.
