Automated analyzers mark results for a significant proportion of samples and require confirmation through smear review. Therefore, each clinical laboratory needs to verify the reliability of the automated white blood cell differential count (WBC DC) and compare it with the reference method. Objective: To determine if there is a significant difference between the automated white blood cell differential count and the reference method in the Hematology Laboratory of the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, 2021. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study will be conducted at the Hematology Laboratory from October to December 2021. Data will be analyzed using Excel templates, and the following will be performed: (1) For determining the association between two variables with a normal distribution, Pearson correlation will be used, while Spearman’s correlation will be applied if the data does not follow a normal distribution. (2) To compare methods, the standard error of proportion with 95% confidence intervals will be calculated for each cell type. (3) For comparing paired means, statistical significance will be determined using a p-value < 0.05 (Student’s t-test). (4) For analyzing bias (systematic error), the regression equation will be considered.Publicación Acceso abierto Concentración de Carga Viral y Recuento de Linfocitos T CD4+ en pacientes recién diagnosticados con el Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana en una clínica particular en Lima Metropolitana, 2021-2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-10-30) Espinoza Guillen, Joselyn Alejandra; Champa Guevara, Cesar AlfonsoOBJETIVO: Identificar la concentración de carga viral y recuento de linfocitos T CD4+ que presentan las personas recién diagnosticadas con el VIH en una clínica particular en Lima Metropolitana, mayo 2021-mayo 2022. MATERIALES Y METODOS: El estudio fue de tipo aplicado, descriptivo, de método y diseño deductivo, observacional y de corte transversal, conformado por 241 pacientes recién diagnosticados con el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, se utilizó como método el análisis documental de las historias clínicas archivadas, como instrumento una ficha de recolección de datos y se creó una hoja de cálculo virtual. RESULTADOS: La concentración de carga viral se encontró elevada en el 52% de los pacientes (>100000 copias/ml) y el recuento de linfocitos T CD4+ se encontró disminuido (<350 cél/μL) en el 63% de los pacientes. Asimismo, se encontraron principalmente en el estadio 3 y 4, representando el 30 y 33% respectivamente. Además, los factores demográficos asociados con mayores casos de diagnóstico tardío fueron: las personas adultas con el 64,4%, sexo femenino con 81,8% y orientación sexual heterosexual con 75,9%. CONCLUSIÓN: Se concluyó que los pacientes recién diagnosticados con el VIH presentaron una carga viral elevada y un recuento de linfocitos T CD4+ disminuido.Ítem Acceso abierto Evaluation of the performance of lysants for the study of immunophenotype by full spectrum flow cytometry in peripheral blood in a private laboratory, Lima -2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-26) Huamanyalli Villar, Elizabeth; Champa Guevara, Cesar AlfonsoThe study of immunophenotyping by Flow Cytometry provides relevant information for diagnosing and monitoring hematological neoplasms. Therefore, protocols for immunophenotyping are based on the use of lysing solutions to eliminate red blood cells, reducing interference effects in data interpretation during subsequent analysis. Selecting an appropriate lysing solution based on EuroflowTM standardization criteria is crucial. The incorporation of new technologies into the laboratory, such as full-spectrum cytometry, involves evaluating conditions to verify the working platform (including the method, protocol, and reagents). Proper use of the lysing agent reduces variability in event dispersion. This protein is crucial for oxygen transport to both the mother and fetus across the placental barrier. Maternal hematological problems are considered a public health issue both nationally and internationally, as alterations in hemoglobin and hematocrit during pregnancy are linked to perinatal complications, high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, and anemia prevalence exceeding 50% among pregnant women, infants, and children under two years old in developing countries. The goal of this research project is to analyze the relationship between maternal hematological values and hemoglobin levels in newborns of pregnant women attended at the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia during 2019-2020. Objetivo: Relacionar los niveles de hemoglobina glicosilada y los hallazgos hematológicos en pacientes diabéticos en el Hospital Sub Regional de Andahuaylas, 2024. Metodología: La investigación es deductivo, cuantitativo, no experimental. Se analizaron 126 muestras sanguíneas de pacientes diabéticos para los hallazgos hematológicos (serie roja, serie blanca y plaquetaria), mediante el autoanalizador Dymind DH-76 (Dymind Biotech, Shenzen, China) y la cuantificación de la hemoglobina glicosilada por cromatografía liquida de alta resolución (HPLC) por el analizador automatizado Mindray H50. Resultados: Se realizó la correlación de Pearson para la serie roja como el recuento de glóbulos rojos (r=-0,31), hemoglobina (r= -0,27) y hematocrito (r= -0,26). Además, su p-valor fueron mayor de 0,05. La correlación de Pearson para la serie blanca como recuento de leucocitos (r= - 0,14), neutrófilos (r= -0,07), linfocitos (r= -0,12), monocitos (r= -0,25), eosinófilos (r= - 0,17) y basófilos (r= 0,01). Además, su p-valor fueron mayor de 0,05. Por último, el recuento de plaquetas (r= -0,25), PDW (r= 0,39) y PVM (r= 0,47). El p-valor de la serie plaquetaria fue mayor de 0,05. Sin embargo, PVM su p-valor fue menor de 0,05. Conclusión: La relación de los niveles de la hemoglobina glicosilada y los hallazgos hematológicos en pacientes diabéticos no tuvieron una correlación significativa para la serie roja (recuento de glóbulos rojos, hemoglobina y hematocrito), serie blanca (recuento de leucocitos, neutrófilos, linfocitos, monocitos, eosinófilos, basófilos). Mientras en la serie plaquetaria se halló una correlación significativa en el volumen plaquetario medio (VPM) y no hubo una correlación en el recuento plaquetario y en el ancho de la distribución plaquetaria (PDW).Publicación Acceso abierto Relación entre el nivel del antígeno prostático específico total y los parámetros clínicos en pacientes atendidos durante la campaña del Centro de Salud Santiago de Surco – 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-08-12) Chilquillo Gonzales, Neri Cerila; Champa Guevara, Cesar AlfonsoObjetivo: Evaluar la relación entre el nivel de Antígeno Prostático Específico total y los parámetros clínicos en pacientes atendidos durante la campaña del Centro de Salud Santiago de Surco - 2023. Metodología: Hipotética deductiva, cuantitativa, de diseño no experimental y nivel correlacional. Desarrollado en 200 pacientes con resultados de tPSA seleccionados probabilísticamente. Resultados: El nivel alterado de tPSA se presentó en el 31,06% de pacientes. Los parámetros clínicos que se encontraron relacionados a este resultado fueron la edad (p = 0,009), el tabaquismo (p=0,000), el alcoholismo (p=0,000) y la hipertensión. Es decir, los pacientes con nivel alterado de tPSA tenían una edad promedio significativamente mayor (65.73±10.52 años) en comparación a los de nivel normal (60.92±9.16 años), también los de nivel alterado tPSA tenían una frecuencia de tabaquismo y alcoholismo significativamente mayor (48,8% de ambos hábitos) en comparación a los de nivel normal (2,2% y 11% respectivamente); así mismo, los niveles alterados de tPSA tenían una frecuencia de hipertensión significativamente mayor (36,6%) en comparación a los de nivel normal (15,4%). This was a hypothetical-deductive study with a quantitative, correlational, applied approach, examining pre-analytical procedures in the hemostasis laboratory of a public hospital. Variable 1 and its dimensions include patient preparation, tourniquet application time, tube order, mixing, specimen volume, centrifugation, and special specimen handling. Variable 2 and its dimensions included basic coagulation profile tests, validated through expert judgment, with a representative population of 2600 users and a sample size of 427, considering inclusion and exclusion criteria. SPSS was used to generate frequency tables for errors, chi-square, and Pearson tests for nominal scale variables. In March 2020, the WHO declared it a pandemic due to its rapid spread and the unprecedented global health crisis it caused. The objective of this research project is to evaluate the role, clinical utility, and relationship of two commonly used biomarkers in clinical laboratories—the neutrophil/lymphocyte index and D-dimer levels—as early predictors of COVID-19 severity. This will help stratify patients based on severity, providing healthcare providers with a useful tool for more timely diagnosis and treatment. The study will use a hypothetical-inductive approach, with a quantitative, applied, correlational, cross-sectional, and retrospective design. The sample will consist of patients admitted to the COVID emergency area at the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital, who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Reticulocytes are immature erythrocytes in the final stages of differentiation. They derive from orthochromatic red blood cells, maturing in the bone marrow (average of 3 days) and peripheral blood (1 day). There are morphological and structural changes, and maturation results in a gradual decrease in RNA and ribosomal protein levels. This method is based on microscopic observation after staining with the supravital dye Brilliant Cresyl Blue. Manual reticulocyte counting is an available test used to evaluate erythropoiesis in blood disorders with altered erythropoietic activity.Ítem Acceso abierto Usefulness of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio in adult COVID-19 patients conducted at Unilabs laboratories, Callao, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-05) Meza Zavala, Roberto Antonio; Rosales Asto, Karen Ruth; Champa Guevara, Cesar AlfonsoThe neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio is a fraction of the absolute neutrophil count divided by the absolute lymphocyte count, which can predict COVID-19 prognosis. This study aimed to determine the utility of the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio in adult COVID-19 patients at Unilabs, Callao, in 2021. The methodology was quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, and based on a sample of 100 patient records. A checklist with a reliability of 0.95 was used. Results showed that 30% of the sample were aged between 60 and 69 years, 70% were male, and 89% had a high-risk score. Conclusion: The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio was useful for assessing the risk of adult COVID-19 patients, with a high-risk outcome.
