Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of spinal board versus vacuum mattress for spinal immobilization in patients at risk of spinal injury(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-01-05) Claros Chavez, Oscar Oswaldo; Palomino Bedregal, Katherine Lizzet; Arevalo Marcos, Rodolfo AmadoObjective: Systematize the evidence of the effectiveness of the spinal board versus the vacuum mattress for the immobilization of the spinal column in patients at risk of spinal injury. Material and Methods: Systematic observational and retrospective quantitative review, subject to critical selection, using the Grade evaluation system to establish the degree of evidence, located in the following databases: Scielo, Researchgate, Sciencedirect, Epistemonikos, PubMed. Of the 10 articles systematically reviewed, 40% (n= 4/10) are systematic reviews, 20% (n= 2/10) are randomized controlled trials and 40% (n= 4/10) are quasi-experimental studies. According to the results acquired from the systematic review carried out in the present study of the countries of the United States (60%), followed by Germany (10%), Iran (10%), Norway (10%) and Denmark (10% ). Results: In this way, of the evidence found, 70% (n=7/10) (20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 27,28) indicate that the spinal board and the vacuum mattress are equally effective to immobilize the spinal column in patients with spinal risk. 20% (n=2/10) (23, 26) indicate that the spinal board is more effective than the vacuum mattress to immobilize the spinal column in patients with spinal risk. 10% (n=1/10) (19) point out that the vacuum mattress is more effective than the spinal board to immobilize the spinal column in patients with spinal risk. Conclusion: The spinal board has the same effectiveness as the vacuum mattress for spinal immobilization in patients at risk of spinal injury.
