Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad antimicrobiana del extracto etanólico de las hojas de Schinus molle L. "molle"(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Clemente Sotteccani, Claudia Elizabeth; Paucar Lopez, Rosmery; Chávez Flores, Juana ElviraPeru is one of the countries with the greatest biodiversity in the world, and many of its plant species can be sustainably utilized by industry. Schinus molle L. ("Molle"), a native tree with medicinal applications whose ethanolic extract exhibits antibacterial properties, is a clear example. The objective of this research was to confirm the antimicrobial activity of the ethanolic extract from the leaves of Schinus molle L. To this end, the ethanolic extract was obtained at concentrations of 500 and 1000 mg/mL, with 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate as the positive control and distilled water as the negative control. The study of antimicrobial activity was conducted using the disk diffusion method with surface plating technique. The experimental solutions were incubated under anaerobic conditions for 48 and 72 hours at 37∘ C, after which the diameters of the inhibition halos were read with a vernier caliper. A qualitative analysis determined the presence of metabolites: flavonoids, alkaloids, carbohydrates, steroids and/or triterpenes, reducing sugars, and phenolic compounds. Results: The ethanolic extract at concentrations of 500 and 1000 mg/mL demonstrated antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175. From the comparison performed, chlorhexidine gluconate produced greater inhibition. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract of Schinus molle L. 'Molle' presents antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175, and the chlorhexidine gluconate is qualitatively similar to the ethanolic extract of Schinus molle L. 'Molle'.
