Ítem Acceso abierto Microbiological profile and resistance of blood infections in patients of the Nuevo Chimbote hospital, 2023 – 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-07-20) Colchado Delgado, Damarys Mahanaim; Astete Medrano, Delia JessicaObjective: To determine the microbiological profile and antimicrobial resistance of microorganisms isolated from the bloodstream of ICU patients at the "Eleazar Guzmán Barrón" Regional Hospital in Nuevo Chimbote, January-December 2023, and January-March 2024. Materials and Methods: The study is non-experimental, retrospective and prospective, quantitative in approach, and applied in type, with a census sample comprising the entire study population. Results: 42 positive samples were found from 32 patients, representing 4% positivity. An increase was observed in patients aged 57, with the predominant sex being male (59.4%). Among microbial species, Staphylococcus epidermidis was the most prevalent, causing 31.3% of the cases. Enterobacter spp. showed 50% resistance to cefotaxime, oxacillin, levofloxacin, and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. Klebsiella pneumoniae showed resistance to ceftriaxone and cefepime (86% in both cases) and complete resistance (100%) to ampicillin-sulbactam. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was resistant to ceftriaxone and rifampicin (88% in both). Staphylococcus epidermidis showed 30% resistance to ciprofloxacin, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, and cefuroxime. Staphylococcus aureus showed 20% resistance to ceftriaxone and cefuroxime and 60% resistance to gentamicin. Conclusion: A diverse microbiological profile was found in bloodstream infections in ICU patients at Nuevo Chimbote Hospital, with a prevalence of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Antimicrobial resistance was observed in several pathogens.
