    Addiction to video games and social skills in high school students of a private educational institution in east Lima, 2023

    The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between video game addiction and social skills in secondary school students from a private educational institution in East Lima. A quantitative, correlational approach was employed with a non-experimental design. The Video Game Addiction Test by Chóliz and Marco and the Social Skills Scale by Gismero were applied to a sample of 136 students, 17.6% female and 82.4% male. It was found that video game addiction did not significantly correlate with social skills (rho = -0.11; p > 0.05), indicating that if students develop video game addiction, their social skills will not be affected. However, the impact on the quantity and occurrence of social interactions that may be influenced by excessive video game use must be considered.
