    Principales indicaciones del uso de la nutrición parenteral en las clínicas y hospitales realizadas en la Central de Mezclas Medical Nutrición, enero–junio. Lima, 2017

    The present research work entitled “Main indications for the use of parenteral nutrition in clinics and hospitals prepared at the Central Mixing Unit Medical Nutrition, January – June, Lima 2017”. The main objective was to determine the principal indications for the use of parenteral nutrition in clinics and hospitals prepared at the Central Mixing Unit Medical Nutrition, from January to June, Lima 2017. The study was descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective, based on a review of medical prescriptions. The variables were underlying diagnosis and types of parenteral nutrition. Results: out of 425 patients (100%) who received parenteral nutrition, 241 were neonates (56.7%), 134 were adults (31.5%), and 50 were pediatric patients (11.8%). Their main indication in neonates was prematurity (49%), with parenteral nutrition 2:1 plus lipids in 88%, the most frequent age group being 10–13 days (22%). The main indication in pediatric patients was postoperative care (50%), with parenteral nutrition 2:1 plus lipids (54%), their age group being 2–33 months (60%). The main indication in adults was postoperative care (41%), with parenteral nutrition 3:1 (61%), their age group being 57–65 years (22%). Conclusion: the most relevant indications were prematurity and, in second place, postoperative patients who could not use the enteral route.
