Ítem Acceso abierto Knowledge and practices in the prevention and control of dengue among residents of the Santa Rosa Alta settlement – Rímac.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-10-27) Campos Chapañan, Shirley Kiara; Corcino Navarro, Angella Yolil; Pérez Siguas, Rosa EvaObjective: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and practices in the prevention and control of dengue among residents of the Santa Rosa Alta-Rímac Settlement in 2017. Materials and Methods: A quantitative, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study with a sample of 198 residents. The techniques used were surveys and observation, with the instruments being a questionnaire and a checklist. Results: 52.5% had medium knowledge, 40.4% had high knowledge, and 7.1% had low knowledge. 100% of the residents were unaware of where dengue is transmitted and the best way to prevent it. 61.6% did not know what the mosquito that transmits dengue looks like, and 53.5% did not know the name of the mosquito that transmits dengue. In terms of practices, 62.6% exhibited inadequate practices, and 37.4% exhibited adequate practices. 68.2% of respondents did not sweep away accumulated water at home, 58.1% did not wash containers with detergent where water is stored, and 54% did not eliminate containers where water could accumulate, such as plastic bottles and tires. The Chi-square correlation test was used. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and practices in the prevention and control of dengue among residents of the Santa Rosa Alta Settlement.
