Ítem Acceso abierto Cognitive Function and Hand Grip Strength in Older Adults at the Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital. Lima, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-10-23) Coronado Huamán, Priscila Lourdes; Puma Chombo, Jorge EloyPeople aged 60 and older are considered elderly according to the WHO, a stage in life when cognitive and motor skills decline due to the biological process of aging. Worldwide and in our country, the number of elderly people has tripled, leading health systems to be on alert to ensure this population can experience healthy aging. Older adults are vulnerable to cognitive decline and muscle weakness, which impacts their independence and quality of life. The prevalence of cognitive decline and muscle weakness is increasingly present in this population, making it essential to identify the onset of these symptoms to mitigate their effects and prevent them from interfering with daily activities. Cognitive function is an indicator of good physical and mental health and is closely linked to grip strength. Furthermore, grip strength is a biomarker related to bone density, overall strength, cognitive abilities, and motor functioning, among others.
