Ítem Acceso abierto Use of contraceptives and its association with squamous intraepithelial alterations of the cervix in patients at San National Hospital Bartolome, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-23) Crispin Herrera, Guisel Erica; Huamán Cárdenas, Victor RaulUnderstanding the effect of contraceptive use on the development of cervical intraepithelial squamous lesions provides valuable information to healthcare professionals to help women make better decisions. The objective was to determine the association between contraceptive use and cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions. An observational, quantitative, cross-sectional, case-control design was applied, including 580 patients screened at the Hospital Nacional San Bartolomé in 2023. The case and control groups each included 290 patients with positive and negative reports, respectively. It was found that contraceptive use increases the risk of developing cervical intraepithelial squamous lesions by 2.34 times with a significant association (OR = 2.34, 1.67-3.27 95% CI; p<0.001). Additionally, a higher risk was found in those using oral contraceptives (OR = 2.12, 1.11-4.02 95% CI; p = 0.02) and injectable contraceptives (OR = 2.00, 1.28-3.12 95% CI; p<0.002). No association was found for patients using IUDs (OR = 1.00, 0.35-2.88 95% CI; p = 1.00) or contraceptive implants (OR = 1.46, 0.72-2.95 95% CI; p = 0.289). It was concluded that there is a significant association between contraceptive use and the aforementioned lesions in patients at HONADOMANI.
