Effectiveness of the self-care educational program in patients with ostomies

The type of study was quantitative, with a study design: systematic review being the essence of evidence-based nursing due to its rigorous methodology, identifying relevant studies of clinical practice, the selected articles were subjected to critical reading, using the System Grade to assign the strength of recommendation. From the results: Results: 10 scientific articles were found and for this the Lilacs, Pubmed, Medline and Scielo databases were used. They agreed that a self-care educational program for patients with an ostomy, after medical discharge, can be considered an appropriate tool or method for monitoring, improving care and general satisfaction. In addition, specialized nursing and education protocols were effective in reducing ostomy complications, avoiding previous errors and reducing hospital readmission. After a nursing educational intervention in enterostomized patients, the level of knowledge about self-care practices increased.
