    Relationship between protein intake and sarcopenia in noninstitutionalized elderly people of the Manzanilla Service Center 2017

    This research aimed to determine the relationship between the consumption of proteins of high biological value and sarcopenia in non-institutionalized older adults who attended a community service center. Cross-sectional, non-experimental, descriptive, correlational study, n= 21 older adults. It was found that six (6) cases of the 21 older adults showed inadequate protein consumption. Furthermore, it was shown that there is a correlation between sarcopenia and the consumption of protein of animal origin. Point biserial coefficient: 0.1998. It is necessary to assess the protein consumption of the elderly in order to avoid weight loss that leads to sarcopenia, diseases and poor quality of life.
