Ítem Acceso abierto Risk of alcohol consumption for treatment adherence in adults with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-09-02) Ccasani Barrios, Carmen Rosa; Cruz Luna, Esther Cecilia; Borda Izquierdo, AlejandroObjective: To evaluate the evidence on the implications of alcohol consumption for treatment adherence in adults with Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Materials and Methods: The systematic review synthesizes the results of multiple primary studies. It is an essential component of Evidence-Based Nursing, involving a systematic investigation of findings in the research. Scientific articles selected to support this objective were analyzed using the GRADE method, an instrument that evaluates the effectiveness of evidence. Results: The final selection included 10 articles, which found that alcohol consumption affects MDR-TB treatment in the following countries: Belarus (37.8%), South Africa (64%), Kerala-India (87.5%), Western India (22%), Karnataka-India (52.2%), South Africa (26.8%), Ethiopia (29.6%), Peru (23.6%), Baltic countries (70%), and the Philippines (75%). Most of the studies were case-control or cohort studies (100%). All 10 articles reviewed found that alcohol consumption leads to non-adherence to MDR-TB treatment. Conclusions: All the articles analyzed (100%) confirm that alcohol consumption negatively impacts treatment adherence in adults with Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis.
