In this context, the Ministry of Health of Peru has recognized the importance of addressing this problem in nursing staff, since work stress is associated with a number of negative consequences, such as emotional exhaustion, decreased job satisfaction, depression and decreased quality of patient care. Objective: To determine the relationship between work stress and coping strategies in nursing staff in the emergency department of a national hospital in Lima, 2023. Method: quantitative approach, basic correlational type, correlational cross-sectional non-experimental design. The representative sample of the research will consist of 94 nurses from the emergency service of a Public Hospital in the Center of Lima, to whom a questionnaire of coping strategies (COPE-28) and another of work stress (Nursing Stress Scale) will be applied. The statistical analysis will be carried out using the Microsoft Excel version 2019 program to classify, organize and verify the quality of the data. They will then be transferred to SPSS software version 27.0 to perform the relevant statistical calculations. The results of the pilot test show that the instruments have a high reliability, in addition to the fact that there is a direct relationship between the study variables and their respective dimensions.
