(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-11-11) Cuba López, Redelina; Yacarini Martínez, Antero Enrique
Objective: To determine the factors associated with self-medication among residents of the Bolívar neighborhood in the district of Sapallanga - Huancayo 2024. A questionnaire of 20 questions was applied in the mentioned neighborhood. Methodology: It is an observational, analytical, and descriptive study considered cross-sectional for data collection at a single point in time for this research work. . The hypothesis of the test of independence of variables (Chi square) was applied to find an association between the indicators of each factor and the self medication variable. Results: 46.3% of the residents have health insurance, while the majority (53.7%) do not have insurance. Most residents opined that their monthly income did not allow them to comply with medical treatment, which represents 63%. It was found that 49.1% of the residents self-medicated with drugs they saw on television; it was also found that 48.1% relied on health information disseminated on social media. 46.3% of the residents work 8 hours a day, followed by 26.9% who work more than 12 hours. 47.2% considered that the lifestyle they lead complicates their health due to buying medications without a prescription. Another important characteristic is cultural traditions; in this case, 36.1% indicated that these traditions affected access to health services. Conclusion: Factors of lack of time leading to self-medication were identified; it was concluded that the indicators of the time factor show that 55.6% of the population indicated that the lack of time prevented them from attending regular medical check-ups; therefore, it was also found that 48.1% chose to self-medicate due to lack of time.
