Ítem Acceso abierto Effect of omega 3 supplementation in the treatment of patients with non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-16) Cutimbo Huanca, Mayda Marianela; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), defined as liver damage resulting from the accumulation of excess fat within hepatocytes, which leads to a chronic inflammatory process. The aim of the study was to identify the effect of omega-3 supplementation in patients with NASH; to do so, the research question was formulated: What is the effect of omega-3 supplementation in patients with NASH? Subsequently, the bibliographic search process was carried out in the PUBMED and EMBASE databases, selecting a total of 17 clinical studies, evaluated according to the CASPE tool, for the development of critical reading. Finally, the double-blind randomized clinical trial entitled "Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in treating non-alcoholic steatohepatitis: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial" was analyzed, rated with a level of evidence A and a grade of recommendation Strong. The critical analysis concludes that in patients with NASH, supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as linseed and fish oils, has a significant impact on the plasma lipid profile. Furthermore, increased plasma levels of these PUFAs were associated with improved liver histology and morphology.
