Ítem Acceso abierto Anxiety levels caused by newborn care in adolescent mothers attended at a National Hospital in Lima - November 2011(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-04) Díaz Cervantes, Israel John; Mauricio Vidal, Flor de María; Chávez Flores, Erik MarioThe present research was carried out with the objective of evaluating the levels of anxiety generated by newborn care in postpartum adolescents treated at a national hospital in Lima in November 2011. The type of study was descriptive, cross-sectional. The sample was made up of 65 postpartum adolescents aged 14 to 19 years treated at a national hospital in Lima, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The technique used for data collection was the survey; and the instrument, a questionnaire containing general data and Dr. Zung's self-reported anxiety scale (adapted). The results show that 75% of adolescent postpartum women do not present anxiety and that 25% of them present mild to moderate anxiety. Significant differences were found between anxiety levels according to the adolescent's age classification, that is, middle-stage adolescents (14-16 years) had higher levels of anxiety than late-stage adolescents (17 to 19 years). . No significant differences were found according to marital status and level of education. The most prominent affective symptoms of anxiety were anxiety and apprehension. The most notable somatic symptoms were dyspnea, perspiration, facial flushing, insomnia and nightmare.
