Ítem Acceso abierto Functional capacity of the elderly attending the Geriatrics Day Hospital.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2016-09-29) De la Cruz Casana, Maria Yesenia; Krederdt Araujo, Sherin LuzObjective: To determine the characteristics of exclusive breastfeeding cessation in mothers of children aged 0 to 6 months attended at the José Agurto Tello Hospital – Chosica, 2016. Materials and Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 103 outpatient users attending the Growth and Development Control Program. The sample included 30 mothers with children aged 0 to 6 months who had abandoned exclusive breastfeeding. The technique used was the survey, and the instrument was a questionnaire that considers biological, educational, and cultural characteristics, as the scoring was developed with the factor present (1) and absent (0) (dichotomous). Validation was performed through the binomial test. Results: The biological characteristic was present in 70% (21) of the mothers, the cultural characteristic was present in 30% (16), and the educational characteristic was present in 66.3% (20). The main reasons for the biological characteristics were related to the type of delivery and the child's complications; for the cultural characteristics, related to customs; and for the educational characteristics, the mother's lack of knowledge about the conservation of breast milk and the technique of milk extraction. Conclusion: Educational and cultural characteristics are important factors for mothers who discontinued exclusive breastfeeding. Meanwhile, biological characteristics are related to the type of delivery and the child's complications.
