    Critical Review: Effect of protein supplementation on the nutritional status of post bariatric surgery patients.

    The present secondary research, titled "Critical Review: Protein Supplementation and Nutritional Quality in Post-Bariatric Surgery Patients," aimed to highlight the importance of protein supplementation after bariatric surgery. The clinical question was: Does protein supplementation prevent muscle mass loss and prevent nutritional complications in both male and female bariatric surgery patients? A systematic search for scientific articles was conducted in PUBMED/MEDLINE, SCIELO, SCOPUS, and WOS databases, yielding 80 articles, of which 14 were selected after a critical reading evaluation (CASPE). The final selected article was a randomized controlled trial titled "Impact of Protein Supplementation After Bariatric Surgery: A Pilot, Double-Blind, Controlled and Randomized Study," which had an evidence level of A-1 and a weak recommendation grade, according to the researcher's experience. The critical commentary concluded that protein supplementation after bariatric surgery improves body composition, promoting fat loss and reducing lean mass loss.
